Big Light

continued: Why Is The X-Files still so successful?

As answered by Vince.

Now lets make a 1000xn List, yes?
I'll start:

1. great visual storytelling (Vince)
2. the respect between Mulder and Scully

3. me: "I was caught by how the show put everything around us into question. If you take episodes like Monday and Field Trip. It deals with how we perceive reality. liked how it was philosophical and questioning 20th century scientific believes."
--> "truth is as subjective as reality"

(but do people still care about agents Mulder and Scully?)
"We think they do," says the creator of the original series, Chris Carter, who is also writer-director on the new film. "There's still enormous interest from fans, and we believe the film will interest people who aren't necessarily familiar with the TV series. I think [the popularity] is driven by David and Gillian [Anderson], and the rare intellectual chemistry between them."

Chris Carter further explores the characters' bond: "For me, The X-Files has always been a romance - an intellectual romance of the mind that's very rare and restrained. It is intimate but not physical. That is a big part of the chemistry. And from the beginning of the show, it was David and Gillian who created our success. Without them, the show would not have worked." ( http://www.moviesonline.ca/movienews_15070.html )

28. It appeals to human nature.

"

What can we know?
What should we do?
For what can we hope?

- Immanuel Kant (1724 – 1804)
DD: "People say the world changes all of the time, yet human nature remains the same,
good stories are good stories and people are going to see them."

Mulder and Scully push each other FORWARD. They are demanding. They keep each other from getting stuck.

And just giving in to dark and destructive impulses migh be tempting - but its not what Mulder and Scully did ( most of the time. lol. Poor selfdestructive Mulder <3. )

And thats what sets them apart and what make any movie with them in it interesting.<3

42 . In two words : high quality. High quality in scripts, stories, acting, production,In short, all that is needed now.

In Season 8 Mitch Pileggy is like one thing thats makes the Mulder story believable

for me. Whatever might happen in the episode. Whatever they bring to him. He must have done that in earlier season

too- but there I was not in conflict with the stories. He saved season 8 for me I think :).

From "Nobody down here but the FBI's most unwanted" through "The possibilities" "The truth we both know" and Maybe's there hope

and Don't give up, we all agree on the one thing "The Truth WE all know". It was our ability to connect with these amazing characters.

I read somewhere online that some where a reboot was being done. Yeah right, like we would actually watch that. It was the amazing chemistry between DD and GA that drew us like moths to a flame. They spoke to each one of us individually. We were/are allowed to personalize the relationships we had with the show, and even now 10 YEARS later, we still write fanfic, we still make videos, we beg Chris and Frank for just one more slice of that cake. In a world of make believe, it was believable. that yes our government is not trust worthy. No the government does not know what is best for us. That we collectivly are a driving force that could literally change the world. to me the X-Files was always like a giant puzzle that you just opened and worked on to find out it's missing a couple of pieces. So you draw in what you think should go there.
