Big Light

No official announcement has been made yet about whether or not a third "The X-Files" movie will or will not be made, but that doesn't mean we can't get our voices heard and let Chris Carter, Frank Spotnitz, 20th Century Fox and other X-Philes know that we want to see John Doggett included in a third possible "The X-Files" movie, in a main role, and a key part. What we don't want to see is the Doggett character treated like Skinner was in the second "The X-Files" movie, "I Want To Believe", barely seen and without purpose. We want to see John Doggett in as an important role as Mulder and Scully, nothing more and nothing less than that.

You can find more information on getting your voice heard about your desire to see John Doggett in any upcoming third "The X-Files" movie at my Doggett fansite, SEMPER FI:

There are graphics and banners that you can save to help promote the interest that there is for John Doggett to be included in XF3. I'm also running a Doggett In XF3 Please poster contest (which I posted on here and on the BL forum awhile back). You can read about the poster contest details at the URL above.

Here's to getting our voices heard and here's to hoping that John Doggett will be included as a main character in XF3.

Any updates to my Doggett In XF3 Please section at SEMPER FI will be added to this discussion.

Today I did add new 183x183 pixel icons that fit well here at Big Light (and other similar social networks) you can find them in my update note on the SEMPER FI main page:

How do you imagine Doggett would first be shown to us in XF3? What kind of pre-alien colonization story do you think we'll learn about him?

I swore I left a comment here before....

Oh well. I'm all for seeing Doggett and Reyes in XF3. They are integral to The X-Files and the mythology. I'm totally support seeing them in XF3, but alas I can not contribute to the poster contest as I lack any artistic creativity. Seriously, I can draw a pants and a dress on my stick figures. =)

I only posted about the poster contest before. I set up this thread of discussion for the cause in general.

It's not really a "get Reyes in XF3" thread as I really don't want her included for various reasons. So though expressing a sentiment about wanting Reyes is ok, I'd prefer if the actual discussion is about Doggett :)

Claudine... feel free to send your Doggett XF3 promotional videos my way. I do plan on having Doggett In XF3 Please video contests in the future, but I'll take whatever I can to put on my site to keep the Doggett In XF3 Please section healthy and alive :)

I'm someone who has watched The X Files from the beginning, love the Mulder/Scully relationship and loves seasons one to seven a lot, but I would love to see John Doggett (Agent Dogbird) back in XF3. Robert Patrick's portrayal was so wonderful in those final two seasons and I thought he made a wonderful addition to the show. I would have loved to see him return in I Want to Believe, but I'd happily settle for a comeback in X Files 3. I'm dying to know what happened to him after Mulder and Scully left him and Reyes in the desert.

I actually went in to see XF2 in theatres expecting to see him in at least a cameo appearance or hear Mulder or Scully or Skinner mention him, but I was left with absolutely nothing. I felt like I got flipped the middle finger by TPTB for being a fan of the last two seasons in IWTB, it really was a movie for fans who didn't like the last two seasons of the show :( I so want to know what Doggett's been up to since 2002.

I've always imagined that even though the X-Files division may have been officially closed after season 9, that Doggett had seen too much and been too closely involved after the events of "The Truth" to just walk away. He is a man of loyalty and dedication and he doesn't clock out until the job is done.

I imagine that in XF3 that we'd start out with him at work at the FBI another division like counter-terrorism (and I will hope for a "24" cameo) and a suspected terrorist attack hits but there's smthg suspicious about it that gets him to look deeper and seek out the help of Scully and Mulder and hence begins the tale of the 2012 alien colonization prophesy.

FEMA would be involved, perhaps said "terrorist attack" would be perceived as a bioweapon attack, maybe a virus outbreak that grows into full-blown alien invasion and when Doggett would be reunited with Scully and Mulder, because of his covert work with such things (I like to imagine that he and Mulder have been in contact about this type of stuff over the years) they would already have an idea on how to proceed to stop everything from going down, to stop human annihilation by alien forces. They'd have to contact Marita Covarrubias since she's the only, recognizable by your general XF fan, Syndicate member left alive, and she may either hold the key to saving the world or know someone who can do it/help them to do it (not involving bringing back any dead characters or having their ghosts help out since that's too cheesy).

Doggett, Scully, and Mulder eventually run into Skinner who has been looking for them and the four of them stick together through the rest of the movie until it ends and they either save or don't save the world.

Yeah... I so want Doggett included in this type of story. He wouldn't even have to wear his work suit all the time, start out like that and then put him in a white t-shirt and jeans or grey tshirt or maybe smthg like that long-sleeved blue shirt he wore at the end of "The Truth", give him a gun too to show off those arms.

You should sell that idea to Chris Carter ASAP Cassie, but don't forget Monica Reyes, I don't think she would walk away from John so easily, and I would love it if she has kept in contact with him since 2002, or even still working with him. Us Reyes fans need a little closure too.

PS-I understand what you mean about being dissapointed at the lack of mention of them in I Want to Believe. I was one of those X Philes that really enjoyed the film, but I would have loved a cameo or even some verbal acknowledgment of their existence.

I'm sure if I came up with the story that I could work Reyes into the mix. I still think that she's more likely to walk away from everything that happened during her time with the X-Files division simply because she's run away from tough situations before. Doggett is not this way which is why I think he'd still be dedicated to helping out.

My preference is that the only central characters of X files 3 be Mulder and Scully with the focus on the intersection of their personal lives with the alien mythology. A return to Mulder as questing hero would be welcome with Scully in her traditional co-investigative role. Any other characters seen should be in smaller supporting roles. I wouldn't mind D & R in a brief cameo contributing to the action in some way. If so I think they should both be there since the both equally represent the "new generation". There are many other characters I'd enjoy an appearance from however, including Maggie or Bill Scully, Marita, Skinner (of course!), Chuck Burkes, CSM, Krycek, and TLG. Even though the latter are dead, death never prevented appearances by departed characters before. Most importantly William needs to be seen, not just mentioned this time.

Doggett was (and Robert Patrick is) awesome- I heartily endorse this idea. I also hope if there is a new XF film it gets decent promotion and a not-insane release date. I also hope that when Fencewalker comes out, Chris comes out swinging against the critics for totally misunderstanding IWTB.

I don't think that any Doggett appearance should be a brief cameo. He was a main character in the series afterall and contributed a lot to the series and I think the character should be given the same respect as Mulder and Scully when it comes down to deciding how large a role he will play in XF3. If we see him the amount of time that we saw Skinner in IWTB I will probably walk out of the theatre and demand my money back.

I would like to see Doggett be the one to bring the whole alien colonization is happening now threat to Mulder's attention and see some good ol' Doggett/Mulder investigating action for a lot of the movie. They'd eventually bring Scully into everything once they knew for sure that it really was alien colonization that is about to happen (or is happening) since they both know that Scully doesn't want that stuff in her life anymore.

As for the minor characters of TXF series that fans would want to see like Chuck, TLG, Gibson, etc. I think we won't be seeing them simply because explaining their role in the whole scheme of things would be too complicated to write into a movie that will likely be 2 hours or less in length. For that reason alone, I'd expect at least one minor character whose involvement with the XF mytharc is very, very significant, to be seen in XF3 (Cassandra Spender perhaps, Marita Covarrubias perhaps). I fully expect to see Mulder, Scully and Doggett as the main characters and then as supporting characters I fully expect to see Skinner and one of those important to XF mytharc characters (Cassandra, Marita). Oh and we have to see the aliens who will try to colonize the planet. I don't think it is necessary for William to be included in XF3, he was made normal and has a life that is not connected to the mytharc or Mulder and Scully anymore. Plus IIRC it was either him or Mulder that was important for things related to colonization and since Mulder is already still around, just focus whatever that story was on Mulder and don't bother with William. Keep the story as simple as possible, if you try to plug in so many different aspects of the mytharc you will only lose focus and have a more difficult time writing the story in an understandable way, JMHO.

I don't want to see any main character deaths (especially Doggett, Scully and Skinner). Ever since I started watching TXF though I've felt that the only true ending for Mulder's character would be death, self-sacrifice to save the world, an honorable act in which there is no other way to make things right. I've been stuck on that for years and years. While I don't expect CC and FS to have the balls to do that, I would be pleasantly surprised if they too think that an appropriate end to Mulder's story. Since XF3 would be the last XF movie, IMO, what better way to end the story of TXF?

Yes, if there's another XF movie it needs to be better promoted. Not many general audience movie goers even knew another XF movie was out in theatres and then the movie wasn't in theatres very long (at least where I live, I think it was around for 3 weeks and then it was gone and I couldn't go see it anymore).
