Big Light

I'm conducting a sociological research project and have decided that I want to focus on us crazy fans of the X-Files franchise. Basically, I just want to ask some questions and answer as many as you want, it'll be a HUGE help.

So here are the questions, you only have to answer the ones that you want to:

1. Age
2. Gender
3. How did ou first start watching the x-files?
4. What aspects of the show and franchise have drawn you in and turned into the fan you are today?
5. How long ago, or rather how long have you been watching the show and when did you become really attached to the series?
6. How much X-files merchandise do you own, and what is it? (dvds, posters, movies, apparel, trading cards, comic books, etc. [know that each individual dvd counts as one item!!!!])
7. Also, is there anything that participate in on the internet, other than biglight? For instance, fanfics, blogs, videos, etc.

Thanks so much everyone!

3. How did ou first start watching the x-files? - 1994 (when it started here in Australia)
4. What aspects of the show and franchise have drawn you in and turned into the fan you are today? - The characters, the stories, MSR, Scully - she is a wonderwoman and I have wanted to be like her since I was 13. She's an inspiration!
5. How long ago, or rather how long have you been watching the show and when did you become really attached to the series? I started watching in 1994 - so have been watching 14 years - with a small hiatus between 2002 and 2006 :oP Became really attached in season 2-3.
6. How much X-files merchandise do you own, and what is it? (dvds, posters, movies, apparel, trading cards, comic books, etc. [know that each individual dvd counts as one item!!!!]) - All seasons 1-9 and FTF on DVD, Many T-Shirts, Comic Books, Magazines, Posters, CDS, Action Figures, Many many different books, Autographs. You name it I will more thank likely have it, or owned it at some stage during my Philedom!
7. Also, is there anything that participate in on the internet, other than biglight? For instance, fanfics, blogs, videos, etc. - I have an Aussie X-Files Group that I created and Maintain at facebook and am holding a fundraiser for AJS with this group next month. :o)

3. When my lab partner in my high school freshman biology class threw up his hands in frustration and said, "Okay, Scully!" I then proceeded to ask, "Who's Scully?" He told me, so I watched the show, to see if I was being paid a compliment or not. Obviously I was. I was 14 at the time.
4. Main fact, that these characters, their intelligence, honor, courage, integrity, and they being unique persons vindicated the dork I was, and has made me mature into an individual, up right kind of human being. My teen years were rather the work of a fledgling self-esteem, and these characters becoming mainstream told me in a rather profound way that I was okay the way I am.
5. Well, I have all the episodes on DVD, roughly five DVD's per season x 9, so, I know it's, the initial retail, was $1,000 on those alone. Much of my collection was decimated during moves in college, and my hatred of myself, needing to get over the show as an anchor for my self esteem and consider myself good enough. So, much of it went, but I still have an original lithograph, some of the collectible art cards from the Topps sets, the art from the original VHS releases, and I do have Fight the Future and am getting the Ultimate Edition of I Want to Believe when it comes out.
7. When I was in college, I was friends with someone in Oregon who did this little Phile Zeen, which I still have, enlightening and amusing. It makes me all warm and gooey inside to reread those things. Also, I participated in writing fan fiction, but I never got to be apart of the dynamic of fandom. Perhaps there are reasons to that, I now perhaps understand. But, these are elusive reasons.

And, thank you for asking this question, in the interest of social science, of course.

3) It was when it first aired on tv in sept of 93'. I was 10 years old at the time and I loved anything that looked scary...X Files drew my attention immediately.
4) From day one it was about the chemistry between Scully and Mulder and because it was and still is a show that makes you think...it was a smart show, and you had to sit and pay attention....I love that. More than that I always wanted to be just like Dana Scully.
5) Since day one, and I became officially hooked with the jersey devil....and the rest is history.
6) I own so much I'm not even sure what I have because I haven't organized it in a few months...one of my favs though is the very first article People did on the show when it first aired...I own everything from newspaper clippings, to comic books, magazines, trading cards, the entire series, posters, apparel, and the list goes on...
7) Idealistshaven, XfilesUltimate.com, Xfilesnews.com, and I network with other philes on myspace. X files will always be my favorite show...I never get tired of watching the episodes, or the movie...and there will never be another like it again.

3. How did ou first start watching the x-files? I started watching when the pilot first aired on FOX. What else was I going to do on a Friday night?
4. What aspects of the show and franchise have drawn you in and turned into the fan you are today? I can't really pinpoint one thing. I think it was the combination of a lot of factors that just put it on another level for me. The subject matter, the cast, the stories, the look, the relationships between the characters...
5. How long ago, or rather how long have you been watching the show and when did you become really attached to the series? I was a fan from the first episode, but I can't really say how long it took to become a full fledged Phile. Probably near the end of the first season.
6. How much X-files merchandise do you own, and what is it? (dvds, posters, movies, apparel, trading cards, comic books, etc. [know that each individual dvd counts as one item!!!!]) - Well, I have all 9 seasons and FTF on dvd, a poster, mousepad, a couple hats, a few books and magazines, Playstation and PS2 game.
7. Also, is there anything that participate in on the internet, other than biglight? For instance, fanfics, blogs, videos, etc.
I never really participated in any X-Files related sites before Big Light.

3. How did ou first start watching the x-files?
Fight the Future reeled me in.

4. What aspects of the show and franchise have drawn you in and turned into the fan you are today?
The creep factor. The plots of the show were very creepy but yet very realistic --that drew me in. And then I was introduced to the wonderful world of the ship. LOL Well the FTF movie helped peaked my interest of course but the ship really came in second for me compared to the overall show. The dynamic of those two is so unique I have never seen anything like it before or since this show. Lots of imitations but nothing comes close. I guess you can actually apply that to the show as well--too many shows/movies trying to imitate the xf and seriously nothing comes close.

5. How long ago, or rather how long have you been watching the show and when did you become really attached to the series?
After Fight the Future--I tuned in for the Season 6 premiere and stayed tuned in for the remaining years and I'm still a fan.

6. How much X-files merchandise do you own, and what is it? (dvds, posters, movies, apparel, trading cards, comic books, etc. [know that each individual dvd counts as one item!!!!])
You don't want to know how much I own. LOL seriously--I have loads and loads of merchandise.

When I first got into the online community I was drawn to fan videos (back in '02) and then it was fanfic though I just read them not write, lol. Now I stick to really one online community (other than this one) :)

3. I first started watching the x-files 5 years ago when I used placed into 100% disability. I never watched TV before and didn't own one. I was a nurse who worked all the time and loved it. But I was bored and got a TV. I didn't sleep at night much so I surfed the chanels looking for something to watch and happened upon the x files. I couldn't get enough and I didn't have to wait a week to see it. It was on every night and many nights it was a marathon.
4.The story line drew me first and then the characters caught on real quick. It made me think and I could never figure out what would happen next, therefore it was never boring. Every episode was new with new content and a new story line. This kept me attached and always anticipating what is next and anxious to see this next show. It is still gripping and addictive even tho I have seen all the episodes I never get tired of it. I do wish it had not gone off even tho I know it had to get hard for the actors. I watch Dr. G a lot because I am a healthcare professional and I enjoy her a lot but the character of Scully has much more enjoyable autopsies and Chris revealed more. Chris' portrayal and presentation of the autopsies I believe was the ground work for all the CSI show's now. We had none of these shows until after the x files. Just think about the doors he opened. This is why I liked the movie recently because new doors were opened in the medical field for TV and the story line is real in the medical field even tho the review's were not so good. Everyone wanted a movie on the alien line even tho they were fore warned it was a stand alone movie. With stem cell research and other research on the rise that no one has heard of except Chris and the health profession, Chris opened another door and he could write another TV show on this line.
6. I don't have much merchandise. Mainly because it is not available now. Had I started watching at the beginning I know without a doubt I would have every magazine and anything else I could get hold off.
7.I participate at Scifi blog some. I am not an avid blogger for the x files. I do participate with the gretawire.com blog all the time.

3. How did you first start watching the x-files?
> I started watching the show in 1998 when i was 13 years old. I have some classmates of mine who loves the show and they eventually influenced me in watching it. I remember having a big crush on Mulder back then... I have this little postcard of him that I hang in front of my seat at school... lol.
4. What aspects of the show and franchise have drawn you in and turned into the fan you are today?
> I practically rested from the show when I entered college... i didn't know how much i really missed it until i saw IWTB. Basically, what I love about the series is the main characters, Mulder and Scully.... the storyline is just secondary. They have the qualities that are worth admiring for... I am a shipper by the way...
5. How long ago, or rather how long have you been watching the show and when did you become really attached to the series?
> I first watched the show in 1998, but as i said, not until i watched IWTB that i became really attached to it. I am now watching re-runs shown on our cable tv and i am planning to own the complete series. :)
6. How much X-files merchandise do you own, and what is it? (dvds, posters, movies, apparel, trading cards, comic books, etc. [know that each individual dvd counts as one item!!!!])
> i have a number of comic books before, but unfortunately i lost them... :( anyways, i still have my shirt that i bought during the release of FTF here in the philippines. I also have the ff. novels: Skin and Antibodies by Kevin Anderson, Squeeze and Regeneration.
7. Also, is there anything that participate in on the internet, other than biglight? For instance, fanfics, blogs, videos, etc.
> Aside from biglight, I enjoy watching fan vids at Youtube.

3. It was one night. I was about to sleep when my mom turned on this RPN channel. It was 1996, if I recall it correctly. So, there this creepy tune that goes *DO DO DO DO DO* I watched the Tooms episode it wasn't bad. I really liked the girl with red hair. I didn't know Scully's name back then though. Since then, I've been watching the X Files.
4. It is many actually. Now, I believe that there sure IS something out there. My country has lots of paranormal stories ya know but I never witnessed one. I now like Aliens and Spaceships and I wanna work for the FBI Too, M&S friendshipp that bloomed into love. i still blush everytime Mulder touches Scully's hand. :D
5. My mom bought the X Files VHS tapes and I still watch it on our VHS player. I have few seasons DVDs and watch it on my DVD player, Ya know. It's really good to reminisence the TV show you have watched since childhood!
6. I have my season 1-7 DVDs. And comic boooooks!!!!!!! My mom has a big box pad locked that says "Mulder will chop off your hand if you touch this" which I think is very funny and that box is fuuuuuuuuuuuuuulll of XF memorabilias, ya know.

3. After seeing FTF, which I went to see because I was obsessed with aliens, UFO's, crop circles, and government cover-ups of UFO's, at the time (had never heard of XF before that)

4. Conspiracies, aliens, the complex and epic plot (I loved how deep the UFO cover-ups went!), the strong message of perseverance and Truth being Out There, and of course, the incredibly unique Mulder/Scully relationship.

5. I became attached while watching FTF. I remember crying my eyes out and wanting MORE, and then my parents told me in was a television series, so I started renting all the tapes, watching all the reruns, and trying to catch up! I was so amazed by every episode I watched, it was all so fresh and different! Not to mention, right up my paranormal alley!

6. All the dvd's of the series, the VHS of FTF, the DVD of IWTB, plus the FTF/IWTB blu-ray dual pack, 3 posters on my wall (one of them signed by CC, FS, and DD), and 4 more in the closet, all the soundtracks (from show and movies), the Lone Gunmen DVDs (not to mention the Harsh Realm DVDs), numerous DD or GA films on VHS or DVD, roughly 25 different books about the series (such as the official guides, the science behind, etc.), plus the novels by Kevin J Anderson and Charles Grant, the complete set of trading cards from both movies and seasons 2, 3, 6, 7, 8, 9, and the "connections" set plus NEARLY complete collections of the other seasons, a big box cards from the card GAME (yes there was an XF card game!), 4 t-shirts, about 30 TV Guides featuring XF on the cover, more than 60 magazines (including official XF magazines as well as random other entertainment magazines) featuring XF or an actor from XF, the first PC game and the later video game for playstation, a couple old XF calendars, the new comics (none of the old ones), the FTF Barbie Dolls (still in box), all the FTF action figures, IWTB mouse pad.... I think that's it XD

7. Not really. I've always hated fanfic (so sue me), and I'm really a lurker mostly. I lurk GA's site, XFN, and very occasionally Haven or the official site or something if I'm really digging for info. I also now keep in touch with a bunch of Philes through my DeviantArt page, which is awesome XD
