The staff and cast of 'The Doll's House' are not happy with certain fans! - Neither am I!!!

On Friday night Gillian didn't sign any autographs for those waiting outside the theatre, only for some inside the foyer. However the staff had told us she would, so I felt it was a bit unfair that the moment some of us were outside they just locked the doors! By the way I'm not speaking for myself here (I've already met her back when she did the play 'What The Night Is For') but for a few of my online pals and other decent fans who sadly didn't get the opportunity. I do know the reason for this though and once again I am SICK of those fans who think only of themselves and nobody else! The manager told me some had been running straight after the cast when the curtain call had ended, and they were NOT HAPPY! He also said that obsessive fans had upset Gillian! So NO BLOODY WONDER she didn't want to go outside of the theatre! Can you blame her? She's kind enough to give her time...and then some fans abuse her kindness. So unless she starts sigining for folks outside again? Then congratulations you ungrateful individuals - you have ruined it for everybody else and should be damn well ashamed of yourselves!

I kinda wish I'd been at the backdoor instead as Christopher Eccleston came out that way and I missed him. Darn it! :-(

But in my opinion it was well worth the trip to London to see 'The Doll's House'. Everyone in it was excellent and it's such a powerful and emotional drama! BRAVO!

Completely agree with what you've said Penny! I flew 25.5 hours not only to visit my fabulous friends in London, but to see ADH and meet with Gillian afterwards... My first experience was absolutely disgraceful (see the Philes in London thread) but managed to have much nicer experiences with Gillian on Tuesday/Wednesday nights.

The weekends seem crazy.

I'm not surprised the staff at Donmar are not happy. What I witnessed at the stage door on the 20th June 2009 I hope to NEVER witness again. It's horrible that people were not staying to applaud Gillian in her curtain call... she did an amazing job in the play and deserves all the "appropriate" support. I have seen photos of Stage door visits that have HORRIFIED me, so I can't begin to imagine how Gillian felt at the time.

I totally agree, i've heard some "horror stories" from my online fan friends, i'm also disgusted by all these reports. NO i don't blame Gillian for not wanting to go outside the theatre because of these disrespectful fans. WE DO NOT OWN CELEBRITIES!!!! If we are lucky enough to be in their presence and to speak with them we should be EXTREMELY greatful and respect them and their personal space. We (Gillian and XF) fans are extremely lucky that the people we admire are willing to share their time with us. People, PLEASE don't ruin it any more for the rest of us who are yet to have a chance to meet Gillian.

Gosh! This is terrible! I feel so bad about this. Well I'm not there but this isn't a good thing.

one of my biggest pet peeves is that certain fans have no concept of the fact that an actor/actress is still a real human- personally i would be beyond freaked if someone followed me to my car, ran into me, grabbed me in any way etc... why would someone who is famous feel any different about it??

I'm sure it must be tiring to go on stage every night and Gillian is under no obligation to sign anything at all after any show- the fact that she does come out to greet her fans just goes to how much she appreciates those who have come to see her... i wish that some of those fans would learn to appreciate her and her privacy as well....

it's a shame that few crazies give all philes a bad name...

Don't you hate how just a handful of FANATICAL obsessed fans can really ruin it for everyone else who actually has any ounce of intelligence or common courtesy? I'm guessing it's the cut-throat squeeling fangirls that feel somehow ENTITLED to meet Gillian that are causing the problems? Disgusting.

I'm happy to add that my online pals DID meet her in the foyer the next night after they had seen the play with some other pals! So glad they got the opportunity to meet her in the end. :-)

I think, as fans and admirers of certain actors, in this case Gillian Anderson, many sometimes forget that what began our admiration was in fact their art, and therefore, it is just that which we should want to see, experience and enjoy. Many people have gone and are going to see Gillian in "A Doll's House" with such high expectations that they are unable to enjoy the grandness of the play and actors themselves. The play was done wonderfully and all the actors did such an amazing job, I was truly blown away. Not to mention how splendid Gillian was. I mean, wow, she is truly a magnificent presence on stage. Everything else, that is, the autograph signing and brief seconds of meet are just an exceptionally huge plus.

I did witness many being disrespectful, which is a shame and embarrassment, since to me one of three things that will turn me away from a person is to have them disprespect me in any way. I would treat anyone with the same values I expect for myself. There is a forgetfulness of Gillian being a person, like all of us, and that she does not owe us anything. I follow her work because I think she is a brilliant actor and humanitarian, period.

I know that as of Saturday the 27th, she is no longer doing outside signing of autographs due to the construction going on in front of the Donmar theatre. They are now closing the doors and anyone not able to get in the line inside the belted area has to go outside and will be unable to attain an autograph. Construction added with disrespectful "fans", it was a no brainer for me to figure out that Gillian was not going to go out the doors to sign anything in such a confining space where anything could happen.

To be fair, because there is always two sides to things, and because there are always those of us who do respect her, I also witnessed many who where there to simply see her performance, enjoy it and all the other actors, whom like I said where wonderful as well. There were young ladies in a group of Philes/GA fans whom I met there and hung out with this past week, that were not able to make it into the line, yet left saying, well, it would have been nice, but it was amazing just seeing her performance, and that it was worth the long flight just to witness such an amazing performance. I tip my hat to those ladies.

Fully agree about the performance. Ibsen is such a powerfully emotional playwrite with a tendancy to steer towards head strong women fighting for their rights in society. And EVERYONE did a marevellous job! I got quite tearful when Christopher Eccleston broke down sobbing. Aw! I also enjoyed seeing the other actress as I know her from the TV crime-drama series 'Waking The Dead'.
