Big Light

There HAS to be one. So shoot away!!

"All Souls"

SCULLY: science only teaches us how … not why.
____

MULDER: Scully? Aren’t you the secret squirrel.
____

MULDER: Look, Scully. I know you don’t really want my help on
this, but can I offer you my professional opinion? (SCULLY nods.)
You’ve got a bona-fide, super-crazy, religious wacko on your hands.
_____

SCULLY: What kind of church is this?
MULDER: There’s no telling.
_____

MULDER: I know people in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones,
blah, blah, blah, but that guy is paranoid.
_____

MULDER: And why would God allow this to happen. Why do bad
things happen to good people? Religion has masqueraded as the
paranormal since the dawn of time to justify some of the most horrible
acts in history.

SCULLY: I was raised to believe that God has His reasons,
however mysterious.

MULDER: He may well have His reasons but He seems to use a lot
of psychotics to carry out His job orders. (=classy!)
_____

MULDER: Sometimes the most twisted ones are the most persuasive.

The Red and The Black

SCULLY: Mulder? What are you doing sitting here in the dark?
MULDER: Thinking.
SCULLY: Thinking about what?
MULDER: Oh, the usual. Destiny, fate, how to throw a curve ball. The inextricable relationships in our lives that are neither accidental nor somehow in our control, either.

all things

COLLEEN AZAR: You think what we do is a little ridiculous, don't you?

SCULLY: Uh, to be honest, I don't know exactly what it is that you do.

COLLEEN AZAR: But you've already formed a judgment about it.

" I feel time like a heartbeat, the seconds pumping in my breast like a reckoning. The luminous mysteries that once seemed so distant and unreal, threatening clarity in the presence of a truth entertained not in youth, but only in it's passage. I feel these words as if their meaning were weight being lifted from me, knowing that you will read them and share my burden, as I have come to trust no other. That you should know my heart, look into it, finding there the memory and experience that belong to you, that are you, is a comfort to me now as I feel the tethers loose and the prospects darken for the continuance of a journey that began not so long ago, and which began again with a faith shakened and strengthened by your convictions, if not for which I might never have been so strong now.

As I cross to face you and look at you incomplete, hoping that you will forgive me for not making the rest of the journey with you

"In med school I learned that cancer arrives in the body unannounced, a dark stranger who takes up residence, turning it's new home against itself. This is the evil of cancer, that is starts as an invader, but soon becomes one with the invaded, forcing you to destroy it, but only at the risk of destroying yourself. It is science's demon possession. My treatment, science has attempted exorcism. Mulder I hope that in these terms you might know it and know me, and accept this stranger that so many recognize but cannot ever completely cast out.

And if the darkness should have swallowed me as you read this, you must never think there was the possibility of some secret intervention, something you might have done. And though we've traveled far together, this last distance must necessarily be traveled alone."

" I have not written to you in the last 24 hours because the treatment has weakened my spirit as well as my body. Mulder, it's difficult to describe to you the fear of facing and enemy which I can neither conquer nor escape. Penny Northern has taken a downturn. I now look at her with a respect that can only come from one who is about to walk the same dark path. Seeing her I can't help but see myself in a month or a year. I pray that I have her courage to face this journey. Mulder, I feel you close though I know you are now pursuing your own path. For that I am grateful, more than I could ever express.

I need to know you're out there if I am ever to see through this."

Oh - I saw this one on Livejournal yesterday too

"Maybe it's other people's reactions to us that makes us who we are."

was that in Small Potatoes? Vince Gilligan <3

MULDER: (voiceover) We work in the dark. We do what we can to battle the evil that would otherwise destroy us. But if a man's character is his fate, it's not a choice but a calling. Sometimes the weight of this burden causes us to falter, breaching the fragile fortress of our mind. Allowing the monster without to turn within. We are left alone staring into the abyss. Into the laughing face of madness.

from Max, season4

SCOTT GARRETT: A man, if he's any man at all, knows he must be ready to sacrifice himself to that which is greater than he.

MULDER: I'm sure all the other passengers on this plane would appreciate dying for your noble philosophy.

SCOTT GARRETT: Look out your window, Agent Mulder. You see the lights? Now, imagine if one of those lights flickered off. You'd hardly notice, would you? A dozen... two dozen lights extinguished. Is it worth sacrificing the future, the lives of millions, to keep a few lights on?

DOGGETT: So close, Dana. I'm sorry you don't get your proof.

SCULLY: Me too. Well, maybe I've had it these past nine years. If not proof of the paranormal, then ... of more important things.

"Agent Mulder, every life, everyday is in danger. That’s just life. "

MULDER: I'm sorry about Queequeg. You know, I think I've learned something
from these photos.

SCULLY: Mulder...

MULDER: They're not pictures of the lake monster, they're pictures of the
lake. Locations where the fish has been sighted over the past several years.
Look, five years ago, all the sightings occured in the center of the lake. But
progressively the sightings have moved closer and closer to shore, until this
year, they're practically on the shore.

SCULLY: Could you repeat that last part again? I kind of faded out.

MULDER: Which part?

SCULLY: After you said "I'm sorry"?

SCULLY: Mulder, when you find me dead, my desiccated corpse propped up staring lifelessly through the telescope at drunken frat boys peeing and vomiting into the gutter, just know that my last thoughts were of you, and how I'd like to kill you.

SCULLY: I must remind you this goes against the Bureau's policy of male and
female agents consorting in the same motel room while on assignment.

MULDER: Try any of that Tailhook crap on me, Scully, I'll kick your ass.
