Gather ye rosebuds.......

Actually, I'm not fond of gathering flowers, I just couldn't think of anything that represented how I feel tonight. Probably because I am somewhat numb.

Literally.

I've been hunched over my computer, pecking away in an attempt to get this essay started. Too much to hope that I'd get much more than a page or two done. It's brutal. It's all. . . . ugh.

Just ugh. It's not making any sense to me right now.

I need a back rub and a good nights… Continue

Gossip Blogs = Joy?!?

So i have a confession to make: i love gossip blogs. i favor them over regular news at times because i find them so amusing and sometimes substantial and factual news depresses me. and it passes the time when i'm an insomniac.

that being said, i received a very unexpected surprise when i looked into www.perezhilton.com to find promotion up to whazooo for none other than our beloved DD's awesome show "Californication!"

How excited am i? very. i think the show is brilliant,… Continue

If You Want New X-Files, Watch Fringe

Long gone are my days of tuning in on Friday night, then Sunday night, and yelling at the TV ‘Aw, God, I hate that!’ when TO BE CONTINUED was displayed on the screen, even though I really, truly loved the ongoing saga of Fox Mulder and Dana Scully. I couldn’t get enough of those paranormal sleuths.

Life, then, was abuzz not only with The X-Files but with real X-Files; stories like Bob Lazar and his alleged employment at Area 51, and his alleged analysis of element 115, the… Continue

Tell me why -- *again* .... please?

Why i am back in university when i could be scaling back and relaxing? Enjoying coffee in the evening with friends instead of stressing over essays and researching 'non white euro-centric males' involved in supporting a particular theory.....

can't find one, btw. They all seem to be white guys.

And sometimes it's just plain weird.

Like running into former students and friends' of my kids. One asked me if I was working there now. Wouldn't that be… Continue

Reality, in the Mind of the X-File Or Into the Prometheus’ Post-Modern Musings

The superstar actor and comedian Robin Williams once joked, “Reality, what a concept.” Perhaps he wasn’t far from the truth with his tongue-in-cheek remark. There are a number of reasons The X-Files was so popular and still is so popular with its core of enthusiasts. The mystery, the monsters, and the extraterrestrials certainly pull in the sci-fi crowd. And, there is the relationship between Mulder and Scully, the antithesis of the modern sex-oriented soap opera schema. Perhaps the… Continue

You know it's bad when......

.... your staff meeting starts with the number of instructional days left, the number of days until the first Pro -D day and the number of days until Christmas break.

Oh, and the administrator, who is part of the healthy schools initiative and a health nut, purchases ice cream and cupcakes for the staff meeting.

And it's the fake stuff. With all those long words that end in 'ides' (Annie would probably know what they actually are), I'm not a fan of sugar stuff. I was… Continue

The mod who wasn't there

I've learned by experience that there's two kinds of message boards. On the one hand, there are the ones where moderators magically appear immediately every time someone goes "off topic" to advise them to go "back on topic!" Unfortunately, mostly, "off topic" seems to mean anything that does not mention what's in the thread title. Now, conversations and discussions often lead from one topic to the next. It happens. And I've also learned by experience that usually, after one discussion comes to… Continue

One Fine Lady

Though she'd been suffering health difficulties for some time, and the news came without shock, I was sad to hear that my dear grandmother passed away today. At 92, she was a remarkable lady, and had lived her life freely and fully. For twelve years was the mayor of her home town of Lac Du Bonnet, Manitoba; she'd traveled the globe, instituted charities, worked herself through a BA degree at a time when women at universities were scarce, taught home economics and science at the local high… Continue

Is it really only September 13?

It was my first week back to school with students.

All 108 of them.

Now, I know that doesn't seem like a large number, but you need to know that each and every student comes with a backpack full of labels. Our students are all intensive behaviour, all 'at risk,' and have a myriad of issues and difficulties with school and so on.

No other school will take them, so they come to us. We run a therapeutic based program which seeks to re-engage through restorative… Continue

Not much to report at the moment

I haven't blogged since I saw IWTB!

I managed to get out and see it 8 times, I know, just short of the 10 that Gillian asked for... but it was very hard to get to the cinema once they dropped it down to one session a day - at 3.30pm. When you work full time, and don't finish until 5pm, it makes it hard! :o(

Post IWTB - I'm a little sad. There's no big build up, there's not so much NEW news every day which is sad. I'm sad that IWTB only lasted a whole 4 weeks here in… Continue

Someone help me!?

That sounded really serious, okay so it kind of is. Um, why can't I ever get on the XFN website anymore? It'll load for like three second and this stupid warning comes up that says "Internet explorer cannot open internet site. Operation aborted." Wahhhh....

Fifteen and half weeks and counting....

That's a rough estimate, but our administrative secretary would be able to tell me to the day, how many until Christmas.

She keeps a counter.

And changes her computer screen saver for every holiday.

I shouldn't be complaining, first week back and all.....but I am a little overwhelmed. Back to back road trips to pick up and bring back the grandparents, course work with chapters to read, plus all the other regular stuff that keep things running around… Continue

Turning Down

It's sad that we have to turn down the invitation. There are so many reasons why we have to turn it down. A recent incident in our photo exhibit that 4 of my friend's X-Files Official Fan Club Photo were stolen. My friends and I were now afraid to expose our collection unless we will be the one who will be guarding our collection for days, and many more (sorry can't expose other reasons)...

And… Continue

Oh no! It's Tuesday!

Never mind that summer checked out about three weeks ago. Or that we've had an unseasonably cool, rainy August. Or that driving 300+ km to the sunny south Okanagen still didn't produce much more than a tad more sunshine........

It's Tuesday.

The day after labour day (as if you didn't know that!), and school starts again.

Which means work for me.

With a twist. This is a strange year.......I liken it to the day my last child entered kindergarten.… Continue
