Big Light

Live-Blogging the Theatrical Trailer (Originally written for and posted at Xfilesnews.com on June 4, 2008)

Honestly, this isn't the first time I've watched the trailer. But this time I'm really really going to pay attention (And run it in slow-mo probably as well). These are my own personal initial thoughts and opinions. Keep in mind that my internal dialog usually runs in sarcastic mode. No offense to the trailer because I really do love it.

And go...

I'm glad this preview "has been approved for all audiences" (You know, my virgin eyes and all).

Snow.

Snow.

Snow.

Dark.

Scary shadow.

Billy Connelly is a good choice for the voice-over and I think he'd probably be a better narrator for this live blog as well.

Ooo doggies.

Blonde lady I've never seen. (Edit: I was corrected by someone who noticed we have actually seen this woman in PMP. She apparently played a waitress at the diner.)

Light that looks like a UFO, but probably isn't, right?

FOX blah blah.

The necessary X-Files unmarked helicopter, probably fresh from terrorizing people in cornfields.

Capitol building in the background, so we're in D.C. Probably at the FBI's fictional helipad.

First time we've heard Amanda Peet's character speaking right? Maybe not. I can't remember now.

Not popular at the FBI. Sounds familiar.

Mulder and Scully and not Skinner (sorry guys). It's Xzibit on the newest episode of "Pimp My 'Copter"!

"Scully?"

"Mulder?"

I'm glad we all still know who we are. (Is it me, or does that sound like a first time meeting? People are going to hate me for saying that.)

Du du duuuuuu! Our heroes! Not looking happy.

The FBI search line at night. I wonder if this trailer is an accurate representation of the amount of FBI searching there's going to be.

Psychic priests. Interesting.

Movie title in promo. I know we've heard it in all of them. I'm still not sure if I like it or not.

Mulder in the snow. Mmmm I could work with that.

I like that we're getting a little idea of the plot here. Not much of course, but we can see where each player is fitting in - the crazy FBI person, the crazy psychic priest getting visions of the crimes, them pulling Mulder back in, who in turn pulls Scully back in. Oh, and Xzibit. Not sure if he'll be the skeptic to Peet's believer or not.

GOD. Uh oh. Trouble in Scully-Mulder land. Things never go good for them when the Big Guy gets brought up.

Scully has a point, as usual.

Snow.

Mulder looking at the sky. Aliens? God? Who knows.

Images from the teaser trailer (Scully. Girl being dragged).

Scully not looking happy again.

The bloody eyes are definitely creepy. I have a feeling I'm really going to like Billy Connelly in this.

Music picking up now.

JULY 25th!!

More darkness and shadows.

Something big and scary.

Action, running.

A definitely pissed Scully. Folks, this could be a rough relationship ride for our heroes.

Running.

Running. (Scully may be done chasing, but it seems others are not.)

Flashlight!

Same FBI search line with helicopter.

Ooo were there horsies in that shot? Dogs and copters and horsies! Oh my.

"It's here."

More flashlights.

More running. I am tired just from having to write about so much running.

Mulder needs Scully. Tell a Phile something she doesn't know.

You all were right, they were totally holding hands in that promo pic of them on the stairs! Good call.

Weird medical test scenes. And for some reason when I freeze that frame with the big needle I think the woman holding it might be Scully, but no certainty on that. (BTW, gross! That needle is hugemongous!)

Oh, that elusive Truth.

Xzibit looks like he just found Gwyneth Paltrow's head in that red box.

Anyone else think half submersed guy looks like Langley? Anyone?

"It's here!"

Mulder's confused.

Ice.

Snow.

Running.

Wait, is that Mulder being dragged now! Scully better be saving his ass this time.

"It's here!"

Ahh!! Creepy big-eared bald guy! (Also, not Skinner.)

Hmm. I think it's here. What about you?

Ice and some running, for a change.

I think that guy falling in the snow is Mulder.

Ice girl.

Kiss her!!!

Sigh.....the sound that makes my heart sing.

"Ahh I know what you're watching!" says my mom from the other room.

Way to ruin the moment mom.

End scene.

After thoughts: I am really loving this trailer. It gives you a sense of the plot without giving too much away. It looks exciting and creepy and cold. I went to see "30 Days of Night" when it came out and I was freezing cold through that whole movie mainly because it was set in the Arctic. I think that's a sign of a movie that did something right. It drew me in. I expect this movie to be the same and hopefully even better because it's our Mulder and Scully.

I'd like to get some non-Phile perspectives on this trailer once it hits the big screen, but to me I think it could peak interest in non-fans. What do you think?

Other thoughts on the trailer? Things I missed? Leave it in the comments.
